Morphological divergence among vertebrate forelimbs

Description
Morphological divergence among vertebrate forelimbs, starting with the bones of a stem reptile. The number and position of many skeletal elements were preserved when these diverse forms evolved; notice the bones of the fore-arms. Certain bones were lost over time in some of the lineages (compare the digits numbered 1 through 5). Drawings are not to scale.
