Description
The purpose of mitosis is to take diploid cells and make two identical clones. A shows a simplified version and B shows a detailed version. This process is used to make all the somatic cells of the body. Thus, all the cells have identical genetic content. Different tissue types and organs are created by turning on different genes in different areas of the body.

Figure A shows a cell with two Xs split into two identical cells with the same Xs. Figure B shows this process. In prophase, the two Xs are in the cell. In metaphase, they separate. In anaphase, they each split into two. In telophase, two cells each with a set of the chromosomes start to separate. In cytokinesis, the two cells are fully separated.
