How Cells Migrate

Description
A cell extends its advancing edge and attaches to the underlying substrate (a cell or the  extracellular matrix) by way of adhesion proteins.  It then breaks the connection between its trailing edge and the substrate, and contracts, pulling its posterior portion forward.
