Description
(a) Bacteria are found in nearly all environments, such as lakes (Anabaena torulosa), soil (Bacillus thuringiensis), and even within the digestive tracts of animals (Escherichia coli). Archaea are also found within the digestive tracts of animals (Methanobrevibacter smithii) and (b) often occupy extreme environments, such as hot springs (Thermus aquaticus).
