In a spontaneous forward direction reaction, does the reactant or the product have more free energy?

Since change in G = G products - G reactants and change in G is supposed to be negative for a spontaneous forward reaction, the reactants should have more free energy.

The reactants have more free energy to react; reactions go toward lesser free energy.
