I have Algebra homework and I don't know how to change into standard form. Here's an example of what the problem looks like.
Ex. (5, -1), m = 2. And it tells me to write it in standard form. But I have no idea what to do next?

Write the equation in y=mx+b form, then convert to standard (standard form is ax + by + c = 0, (a, b, c are integers))

y - y1 = m(x - x1)
y + 1 = 2(x - 5)
y = 2x - 11 Leftwards Arrow y = mx+b form
y - 2x + 11 = 0 Leftwards Arrow standard form

Seems more like an equation question where you have to find out equation based on slope point formula
y ? y1 = m(x ? x1)
y-(-1) = 2(x-5)
y+1 = 2x-10
y=2x-11
or y - 2x + 11 = 0

equation of straight line(point and slope form) is
y - y1 = m (x - x1)
so your equation is  y -(-1) = 2(x - 5)
or y+1 = 2x - 10
standard form of equation is ax + by +c = 0 where a b and c are constants
so by rearranging the equation we get the standard form which is

2x - y - 11 = 0

i'm guessing the standard form you're using is ax+by=c, because when i took algebra last year that's what I used for slopes and stuff.

first you find the slope intercept form equation: y=mx+b
that would be -1=2(5)+b
which would be then -1=10+b
so b (the y intercept) is -11
sub it in and you get y=2x-11

with standard form, you then subtract the 2x over, and get -2x+y=11
