Among human beings ABO blood type is determined by a single gene with not two but three alleles. Could we modify the Hardy-Weinberg equation to cover this case or does it simply not apply? If the frequency p of the allele Ia is 0.3 and the frequency q of the allele Ib is 0.2, what is the frequency r of the allele Io? What are the frequencies of the genotypes IaIa, IaIb, IaIo, IbIb, IbIo, and IoIo?
