I have read among other professions surgical doctor is a popular choice for sociopaths. Was wondering if surgeons get regular psych evaluation?

Would be devastating to have a surgeon who's not right in the head. However, psych exams can easily be falsified to produce a desirable outcome -- they're definitely not a definitive way to predict a person's mental health or behavior with absolute certainty. ESPECIALLY if it means ruining a doctor's career because of a false positive. I think we should let the surgeons record speak for itself

I have read at least 1% of population are sociopaths. That seems pretty high.

But does that also imply that 1% of surgeons are nuts? I don't think that's a fair correlation to make

Well no, if the tendency of sociopaths is towards being a lawyer, politicians, surgeon, and some other narcissistic and cool under pressure jobs the percent is bound to be higher for surgeons?

A sociopath isn't someone who is "nuts" (crazy), but anyone characterized by "antisocial behavior, a lack of empathy or remorse, and a disregard for the rights and feelings of others"

Thanks for clarifying 😆 I sort of overlooked its meaning, I admit. I don't think being a sociopath is necessarily a bad thing for a surgeon. Clearly they've earned their ranks as a professional, and if they tear up over every patient, it isn't good for the outcome. I think it is important to detach yourself from reality when dealing with people's lives -- of course, not entirely, but enough where you can stomach the pain and anguish of others and still do your job. That being said, 1% is an understatement
