Telemarketing works well in conjunction with direct response television, mail, and print campaigns because it gives the potential customer a way of responding.  This is for inbound calls.  Outbound calls are a bit different in that they are an intrusion for the potential customer.  One cannot ignore that the response rates are 100 times higher than that of direct mail alone and much more cost effective than personal selling.
