I just started forces in my physics class, and I'm having trouble solving a homework question.

The question is "A 0.50-kilogram guinea pig is lifted up from the ground. What is the smallest force needed to lift it?"

Please show work, and thanks Slight Smile

The mass of the animal is 0.5kg
so the minimum force will be to oppose its weight
weight = mass x g
g = 9.8 or approx 10m/s^2
so Force = weight = 0.5 x 10 = 5 newtons (N)
