A double decomposition rxn is between two compounds in which parts of each are interchanged, forming two new compounds.

A precipitation rxn occurs when soluble ions in separate solutions mix together and form an insoluble compound. This settles out of a solution as a solid.

a reaction which can be represented by following equation is known as double decomposition
              AB +CD------------->AD +CB
  if in this any substaance ie   AD or CB come out from system in insoluble form then this is known as precipitation
