No, they are pretty inert, unless ignited. Only certain reactions of low yeild take place.

Alkanes can be halogenated in the gas phase with UV light. For example,
CH4 (g) + Cl2 (g) + UV ? CH3Cl (g) + HCl (g)
Also, alkanes burn, for example:
CH4 + 2 O2 ? CO2 + 2 H2O

CH4 is methane, the simplest alkane.
