if you know the structure of the antibody you need (the amino acide sequence) you could then convert that into its complementary DNA sequence and produce a recombinant DNA molecule that codes for your antibody and then simply inserted into a cell line! couldn't you? is that how you would make antibodies without actually requiring the antigen?

Antibodies don't just look for DNA sequences or the resulting amino acid sequences; the structure of the resulting protein is just as important (if not much more so) - without information about how a given antigenic protein folds, it would be difficult to just design an antibody for it.
