Hello fellow biologist,

My name is symori, zero background of science knowledge. Just started loving it.

Situation:

I am trying to produce my own ethanol by adding yeast, sugar and water into an empty bottle. On top of the bottle, I covered with a balloon to indicate the quantity of CO2 produced.
After 2 days, I saw the balloon is no longer expanding, so I feel like want to take out the balloon and proceed with distillation process.

Question:

1. Should I add more sugar and water to produce more ethanol?
2. What will be the best indication for me to start distillate the yeast solution for ethanol?

Thanks a lot for your kind assistance!

Thanks for your respond.

I do smell alcohol from the bottle. In 4-5 days time I will distillate my yeast solution.

Again, highly appreciated your reply.
