The silled basin model for evaporite deposition provides a mechanism by which thick
accumulations of evaporites can be formed. The model is illustrated in Fig. 10.12 of the
textbook. Inflow of seawater continually replenishes the seawater in the basin and evaporation causes supersaturated brine solutions to continually deposit evaporites, including
salt.
