A 60-year-old chronic smoker was found to have a small-cell carcinoma of the lung.
During the laboratory work-up it was found that he had low serum natrium, low serum osmolality, but normal extracellular fluid volume.

Urine osmolality and concentration of sodium in urine were high. These findings are most consistent with a paraneoplastic syndrome caused by an oversecretion of
  A. adrenocorticotropic hormone
  B. antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
  C. atrial natriuretic hormone
  D. parathyroid hormone
  E. parathyroid hormonerelated protein
