What comes to mind when you think of environmental activism? What are the differences between environmental science and environmental activism? Is it possible to separate and participate in both?

What are the differences between environmental science and environmental activism

An environmentalist tries to follow the recommendations that result from the studies performed by environmental scientists. The scientist may or may not be an environmentalist and the environmentalist may or may not be a scientist. An environmental activist tries to force others to follow those recommendations.

One could be an environmental scientist and not care one way or the other about environmental issues. (This is the same phenomenon that guarantees that ethicists are not necessarily ethical.) But I think that what draws people to environmental science is recognition of the importance of environmental problems.

What comes to mind when you think of environmental activism?

A tree-hugger? Someone who is concerned about environmental protection. Generally, activists consists of people who promote, impede, or direct social, political, economic, or environmental change. The term connotes a peaceful form of conflict. Various forms of activism range from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, political campaigning, economic activism such as boycotts or preferentially patronizing businesses, rallies, street marches, strikes, sit-ins, and hunger strikes
