The difference of 2 and half of a number?

I've been getting (x-2)/2 but that is wrong can anyone point me in the right direction?

x/2 (that's half a number) - 2

According to one textbook I have, they say:

The difference of 2 and 3 is 5.

So maybe it's 2 + x/2 ?

Is there a possibility that you're inputting it wrong into the software? Maybe what you had initially was right afterall...

No you have the ability to preview the answer before hand and 1/2x - 2 is wrong as well
