The patient who has urinary incontinence is at risk for urinary tract infection and urinary calculi. The nurse should teach the patient and family that the best way to prevent these complications is to:
1.   restrict the patient’s fluid intake and frequency of incontinence.
2.   be sure the patient’s voiding schedule is no more often than every 4 hours.
3.   use an indwelling catheter.
4.   encourage the patient to void at least every 2 hours and to take at least 2000 mL of fluid daily.
