A newborn five minutes after birth has a heart rate of 100, is crying vigorously, and shows some flexion of the arms and legs. The extremities are bluish in color. The head and chest are pale but pink.

The best nursing intervention at this time is to: A) use a DeLee mucus trap, and suction the nasopharynx for 1-2 minutes. B) provide oxygen, and prepare to assist ventilations with an Ambu bag. C) administer a vitamin K injection, and place erythromycin ointment in each eye. D) wrap the infant in a warm blanket, and hand the baby to the parents.
