According to this research, both the students who engaged in multi-tasking behaviors during a lecture and students who were sitting nearby were negatively impacted in terms of their performance on an academic task. This research should encourage faculty to have policies that prohibit multi-tasking and students who wish to perform well should avoid sitting near others who multi-task.
