What are the advantages and disadvantages of using cellulose as biofuel? Why does it cost most to produce fuel from this source as opposed to sugarcane and corn?

I thought it might be more expensive because of the smaller concentration of sugar within the compound (meaning you need a greater quantity of plant mass) and the fact that it takes more work to access the sugar inside of cellulose. Am I thinking along the right lines? Help is much appreciated!
