Despite studies that show that social mobility has declined from the 1970s until today, the majority of Americans believe in the American dream that hard work results in equal rewards, and that class distinctions are not fixed. Choose Davis and Moore’s theory of meritocracy or Tumin’s belief that social inequality makes access to certain types of education and occupations likelier for some than others and make a case for either side.
