Rather than expressing frustration by conveying it in their tone of voice (which only
interferes with productive communication), social workers can try to:

  a. provide feedback, self-disclose and state observations on how they are feeling
in order to try and facilitate participation in the work.
  b. convey acceptance and empathy and explore the issue to facilitate new
  possibilities for participation.
  c. increase their credibility so that they can persuade the person to see things
  their way.
  d. reflect on their thoughts and feelings and client assessment to justify their
  strong reactions to this client.
