Ans: Cooperative binding refers to a situation where binding of the first molecule greatly increases the affinity with which a second molecule can bind. Cooperative binding is important for repressor function because it increases the effective affinity of repressor for the operator at physiological concentrations, allowing the lytic pathway to be kept in check.
