How does cleavage of the repressor result in induction of the lytic cycle?

Ans: Cleavage of the repressor in the connector region eliminates its ability to dimerize. Dimers have a great affinity for the operator than monomers. As monomers, the repressor subunits dissociate more readily from the operator, and RNA polymerase can bind to the promoter.
