Where are the long tandem clusters of highly repeated simple sequences, or satellite DNA, located in chromosomes?

Ans: The technique of in situ hybridization localizes highly repetitive DNA to heterochromatin (or the compact, largely transcriptionally inert) regions of chromosomes and mostly to the centromeres, the regions of chromosomes that attach to the spindles during mitosis and meiosis.
