1. The radius and blood flow are directly proportional to each other. As the vessel radius increases, the blood flow also increases.

2. Depending upon the local needs of nutrients and oxygen by the tissues, blood vessels will increase or decrease their radii by altering the amount of contraction of the smooth muscle in the tunica media. The alteration of vessel diameter is controlled by the autonomic nervous system.

3. The plot is not linear it is curved because blood flow varies directly in an exponential fashion to the radius.

4. Slower blood flow allows for more time for nutrient and gas exchange to occur between the blood and the
surrounding cells.
