I was just curious, if a cell is given radioactive oxygen what molecule would the radioactivity end up in? Would it end up in the H2O or the CO2?

If you're talking about labeling the oxygen of inhaled air, then shouldn't it end up in the water? The oxygen attached in carbon dioxide should come from the breakdown of the glucose molecule.

I'd assume water also, because oxygen is the final electron acceptor that when combined with hydrogen becomes water.

Thanks a ton. I figured it was mainly H2O because the O2 molecules should be reduced to water where, like you said, CO2 should be produced as a bi-product of the Kreb's cycle. Thanks for the help.
