Answer to #1

Intermediate cuttings are made before the forest is ready to be completely harvested. These cuttings are management
tools intended to improve the forest and increase production by removing undesirable trees, thinning to
improve sunlight penetration, and decrease the risk of wildfire.

Answer to #2

The tree will be cut into logs before it is sawed into lumber. Thus, any extra length beyond that of the standard
log will not be usable for saw timber

Answer to #3

It is called girdling. The tree will die because the outer and inner bark have been removed and no food can get
from the leaves to the roots. The roots will die first then the rest of the tree will die.

Answer to #4

It is easier and quicker to weigh a load of wood than to measure its volume in cords. Paying by weight encourages
the producer to deliver freshly cut wood because it is heavier than aged wood, and fresh wood is easier for the
buyer to chip and process

Answer to #5

We produce the same number of trees on fewer acres because of better forest management techniques and more
productive varieties. We produce more products from the same number of trees by more efficient use of the parts
of the tree.

Answer to #6

 Direct seeding.
 Cuttings.
