Answer to q. 1

1) Addition of a 5cap: allows ribosome binding to mRNA and may protect mRNA
transcripts from degradation.
2) Addition of a poly-A tail: aids in the export of the mRNA trancript from the nucleus;
protects mRNA transcripts from degradation; allows ribosome to recognize mRNA for
translation.
3) Removal of introns: removes noncoding sequences.
4) Splicing of exons: joins consecutive coding regions (exons) after the removal of
intervening introns.
