Cattell's approach to intelligence testing was to measure the individual differences objectively and that intelligence was related to sensory acuity.
- Wissler's results were disastrous for Cattell's testing program. He found that intercorrelations among the tests were very low and that the correlation between various tests and success in college was nearly zero (Guilford, 1967). Thus, the tests were not measuring the same thing because if they were, they would be highly correlated; and they were not valid because if they were, scores would correlate highly with academic achievement. With such unambiguous, negative findings, the interest in mental testing quickly faded.
