In this journal paper where they did high coverage whole genome sequencing of hunter gatherers, in the table they have, the DAF values are shown to be lower for the exon regions.

What does this mean? they have things like proportion of polymorphic alleles and Tajima's D and allele frequency differentiation and things like that but i understand those but I dont understand this derived allele frequency and why is it calculated to be lowest for the exon regions?

Derived allele frequency is the extent of deviation in human population from the ancestral base.
