Suggested Responses: Students should include in their response both positive and negative effects. Positive effects should include higher educational standards, greater appreciation for what children can learn, and the belief that children learn more when we hold high expectations for them. Negative effects should include academic pressure that can cause school failure, school phobia, increased grade retention and expulsion in lower grades, and decreased learning opportunities in non-academic areas.
