Why -3(xdeltax)^2+1  becomes - 3(xdeltax)^2-3?  . Did you multiply  the front  -3 right? Then why it  doesnt dissapear?

Answer:

\(-3\left[\left(x+\Delta x\right)^2+1\right]\)

You must expand the expression by multiplying the outside factor of \(-3\) into the terms found in the brackets:

\(-3\left(x+\Delta x\right)^2-3\)
