Question 1.

A teacher has a morning class with 24 students, and they had a mean score of 84% on the midterm exam.  The afternoon class has 28 students, and they had a mean score of 86% on the same exam.  Does it follow that the mean score for both classes combined is 85%?  Explain.

Question 2.

A food inspector finds that 6% of the packaged spinach tested at one organic food distributor contain bacteria and 10% of the packaged spinach at another organic food distributor contain bacteria.  Does it follow that between the two organic food distributors, a total of 8% of the packaged spinach tested contain E. coli bacteria?  Why or why not?
