1.People with headaches are randomly divided into two groups.
One group receives pain relief, whereas the other does not. The participants are asked about their pain an hour later.
If it is an observational
study, what are some things that could cause the effect to happen?

Control group: those who did not get medication
Treatment group: those who did get medication
Effect being studied: whether medication decreases headache pain

Since there is randomization and some aspect of control (some are given the medicine while the others are not), this is an experiment. Even though you cannot tell if the two groups have similar make-up, the other two criteria are met, so this is a well-designed experimental study.

The only observation you could make is if whether the medication decreases headache pain. You could use a scale system to quantify the effectiveness.
