We were asked to solve for the derivative of y=√a^2+x^2. We have to use delta method though and I'm still confused on how to solve this through delta method because there are three variables. like should I solve for dy/dx and then another one?

Hi Gigi,

Welcome to the forum.

Just to clarify, is your equation:

a) \(y=\sqrt{a^2}+x^2\)

b) \(y=\sqrt{a^2+x^2}\)

Not sure which one. Secondly, were you given a value for \(a\)?

Assuming that \(a\) is a constant, and that (b) is the equation we're working with, you should get a derivative of:

\(\displaystyle\frac{dy}{dx}=\frac{-x}{\sqrt{a^2+x^2}}\)
