Why can it be challenging to meet the ethical obligation of informed consent when conducting online therapy?

▸ A therapist may think she is treating a human client, but it could be a chatbot impersonating a human.

▸ Age can be difficult to determine in an online forum; treating a minor without parental consent is an ethical violation.

▸ Informed consent requires a signature in ink; that is nearly impossible to achieve in an online medium.

▸ People posing as therapists may fabricate consent forms for nonexistent clients in order to commit insurance fraud.
