What is the purpose of the 3'-to-5' exonuclease activity of DNA Polymerase?

▸ Some polymerases do not have exonuclease activity.

▸ Remove mismatched nucleotides in the newly synthesized strand.

▸ Degrade excessive nucleotides on Okazaki fragments.

▸ Remove mismatched nucleotides in the template strand.

▸ Removing mismatched nucleotides at the polymerase active site increases the rate of synthesis in the 5' to 3' direction.
