Consider the following velocity distribution curves A and B         a) if the plots represent the velocity distribution of 1l of He(g) at stp versus 1l of Cl2 at stp, which plot corresponds to each gas ? Explain.                        b)if the plots represent the velocity distribution of 1l of O2 at temperatures of 273k versus 1273k which plot corresponds to each temperature? Explain your reasoning

a) Plot A corresponds to He(g) at STP and Plot B corresponds to Cl2 at STP. This is because He(g) has a much lower molecular weight than Cl2, so it has a much higher average velocity at STP.

b) Plot A corresponds to 1L of O2 at 273K and Plot B corresponds to 1L of O2 at 1273K. This is because the average velocity of a gas increases with temperature, so Plot B has a higher average velocity than Plot A.
