The answer to this question is simply that Earth has life. Photosynthesis supplies oxygen to the atmosphere by converting CO2 to O2. Oxygen is removed from the atmosphere through oxidation processes such as fire and rust. Therefore, Earth originally developed its oxygen atmosphere when photosynthesis added oxygen at a rate greater than it could be removed.
