Cytokinesis is the process by which daughter cells complete their physical separation at the end of mitosis. The completion of cytokinesis marks the end of cell division and the beginning of a new cell cycle.

Cytokinesis is the process by which daughter chromosomes approach the ends of the spindle apparatus. The cytoplasm then constricts along the plane of the metaphase plate, forming a cleavage furrow that deepens until the two daughter cells are separated; thus, completing their physical separation at the end of mitosis. The completion of cytokinesis marks the end of cell division and the beginning of the next interphase period (a new cell cycle).
