When inhibitory neurotransmitters open ligand-gated potassium channels, does potassium leave the cell, thus causing the inside of the cell to be more negative (hyperpolarisation)?

During an action potential, two potassium ions enter the cell, while three sodium ions exit the inside of the cell. Therefore, the concentration of potassium inside the cell is higher than outside.
