Do you know what kinds of cell markers your red blood cells have? Do you know your own blood type? How are these two pieces of information related?

Glycoproteins and glycolipids can act as cell surface markers. On blood cells, some of these markers are designated as the blood type. The most common blood typing system is the A-B-O system, usually paired with the rh system, so your blood type may be, for example, B+ or O-.

Glycoproteins are the general markers present in the blood .The blood group follows the ABO system which is a an example of a multigene.
