1. Look for products with less packaging or with refillable, reusable, or recyclable containers.
2. Bring your own reusable, washable grocery bags to the store.
3. Buy foods that are produced sustainably.
4. Purchase organic or locally produced foods or foods produced with fewer chemicals or pesticides.
5. Do not buy plastic bottles of water. Purchase a hard plastic or stainless steel, wide-mouth water bottle and fill it from a filtered source.
6. Do not use caustic cleaners.
7. Buy laundry products that are free of dyes, fragrances, and sulfates.
8. Use soap and water to clean surfaces, not disposable cleaning cloths and spray-on shower cleaners.
9. Purchase appliances with the Energy Star logo.
10. Buy CFLs instead of less energy-efficient incandescent bulbs.
11. Use reusable mugs, plates, napkins, and silverware rather than disposable products.
12. Buy recycled paper products when you can.
13. Purchase bed linens and bath towels that are made from bamboo, hemp, or organic cotton.
