If the structure (such as the lens and cornea of the eye) contains no blood vessels (that is avascular), is it likely to be very thick why or why not?

Without blood flow the only way that nutrients can get to the tissue is by diffusion.  Most avascular tissues are relatively thin to aid in the process of diffusion.
