Smoking can increase your risk of developing heart disease in at least four ways:
1) smoke contains nicotine, which increases heart rate and blood pressure; 2) smoke increases your blood's ability to clot; 3) nicotine may lead to arrhythmias; and 4) smoking increases your risk of developing arteriosclerosis by elevating blood cholesterol levels.
