Generally, we write ^ for 'to the power of':

3x^2y^5 / 6x^4y
= x^2y^5 / 2x^4y (divide by 3/3 )
= x^2y^4 / 2x^4 (divide by y/y )
= y^4 / 2x^2 (divide by x^2/x^2 )
