If a person gets a shot of epinephrine, the person almost immediately feels the effects (for example, increased heart and breathing rates). If the same person gets a shot of a steroid hormone such as cortisone, there is no immediate response. What is the reason for this difference?

epi is a powerful vasocontrictor.  That's why you see immediate response.  The blood vessel constrict, increasing heart rate. In the case of a severe reaction, it would help with bronchodilation.  Steroid is anti-inflammatory.  You see immediate response if it's in IV form, you just dont feel it because it's neither a vasoconstrictor or a vasodilator.

Epinephrine is water soluble and causes an immediate response, whereas steroid hormones cause a slower change by stimulating gene activity.
